my green thumb

though i am definitely no pro in this area, i am beginning to enjoy doing some gardening, especially now that we have a place of our own. here are a few of the things i have been whiling away on:

First ripening tomato
my first (almost) red tomato!! how exciting. can't wait to see whether it tastes as good as it looks :) between both of my plants i have about 12 tomatoes growing.

First green pepper
...and my first green pepper (and only, thus far)! although, it definitely looks like some weird green pepper-jalapeno hybrid... and it is probably not much good for eating... but oh well!!

(Side note: i have a jalapeno plant, but something keeps eating all of them!! how strange. )

Herbs
and, of course, my herbs -- which are beginning to outgrow their pots and may need to be transplanted to the garden out back soon.

and here are a few photos of the plants/flowers i've been nurturing:
Mailbox flowers
the mailbox flowerbed...

Front flowerbed in the works...
the front flowerbed, which still needs a good bit of work... some more mulch, whichever style of edging we decide on, and then i need to decide what to do about a few of the plants in the middle, which have not decided themselves whether or not they're going to survive the transplanting from my aunt's house. we shall see.

Shasta daisy
one of my Shasta daisies...

Tall garden flox
a close-up of the flox...

Colored ivy
...and a closer look at some of the colored ivy lining the front of our flowerbed. we also have a flowerbed along the side of the house in the works, but really, when will i have time to finish these?!? a certain someone demands an awful lot of my attention these days :)

Wow! I am green with envy! =) My little tomato plants yeilded one really sour, gross cherry tomato with very little promise for anything else! =)

I'm green with envy too! Keep up the good work! When Erik moved into the house- when he and Stuart were living here- I did a TON of work to the flower beds... and now no one would ever know. Guess that's what 2 summers of being pregnant will do to a flower bed... well, MAYBE next year...
